Dine and Wine

At the fabulous Lovelady Shield

Its not only the stunning countryside people talk about but also the fabulous food.

But don’t take our word for it….

The food here is an absolute credit to the chef! Had the tasting menu & the flavour, attention to detail, presentation was amazing! Lovely hotel, highly recommend making the journey here.

Review from a recent guest

For the last 15 years our team of talented chefs have been awarded 2 rosettes by the AA – ( defined as excellent restaurants which aim for and achieve higher standards, better consistency and where a greater precision is apparent in the cooking)

And more recently they were awarded a TripAdvisor Restaurant Certificate of Excellence.

The team is led by Head Chef Tom Orton. Tom first came to Lovelady as a trainee at the age of 17. We knew he was going to have a great future when he won the title of Young MasterChef awarded by the Masterchefs of Great Britain http://www.youngmasterchef.co.uk/ (not to be confused with the TV programme.) He then went on to work in several Michelin starred restaurants before returning here as Head Chef.

We offer a choice between a 4 or 7 course tasting menu dishes are created using the finest local seasonal produce.

For those guests who prefer a more informal meal prepared to the same high standards we offer a bistro menu served from 5pm to 7.30pm.

Guests staying in the cottages are very welcome to use the bar and restaurant. Some of our guests decide to take breakfast and/ or dinner – or we can arrange for one of our chefs to prepare a casserole meal ready in your oven for your arrival.

A great meal deserves great wine and Peter is very proud to have been awarded the AA notable wine list for several years now. He was also a finalist in Imbibe Magazine’s wine list of the year 2014. Peter has a passion for wine and prides himself on sourcing unusual lesser known varieties for guests to experience at affordable prices.

He carefully selects wines to accompany the tasting menus. And our suppliers are constantly looking for new small winemakers from around the world unlike the mass-produced wines you often find in Supermarkets.

Children are welcome to stay but as we are a small restaurant we respectfully ask that children under 7 dine before 7pm.  The Bistro menu is available for them to choose from or, we are happy to prepare something to your child’s requirements with some prior notice.

The tasting menus are designed to be leisurely affairs enjoyed over a couple of hours and we find that children under 7 are not happy to remain still for that length of time. Equally many of our guests are parents themselves who are enjoying a night or two away without their own children and appreciate the adult environment we offer in the evening.
